Are you sore for days after your workout, which is keeping you from going back to the gym or going out? Is it taking longer than you expected to recover from your workouts? That happens..which is why I am going to tell you how to recover faster from workouts if you’re over 50. If you are pushing yourself hard enough when you are exercising, you are going to get sore. It is a good soreness to have because that means you are working your muscles. There is a soreness you get a day or 2 after your workout, which is also a good soreness to have. This is the soreness that I am going to tell you how to recover faster from because this is a multi-day recovery.
Tip #1: ACTIVE RECOVERY. Don’t just sit on the couch and relax, or sit down at your desk all day. It may be a rest day or the weekend, where you don’t have a planned workout..you still need to do something active to get the blood flowing. Whether going for a walk or hopping on the stationary bike, you need to get blood flow in the sore muscles to flush out the lactic acid.
Tip #2: DRINK LOTS OF WATER. It is something that a lot of people don’t prioritize, but you need to drink more water. You need to stay hydrated throughout the day, whether you are working, golfing, or just doing things around the house. It can also help to avoid having too much alcohol and caffeine.
Tip #3: SLEEP. We talk about this one a lot when it comes to recovery, building muscle, and losing fat. The more sleep you get, the more time your body has to repair the muscle fibers. Sleep is also when you produce most of your good hormones, like testosterone and growth hormones. If you are having trouble sleeping, you can try using supplements to help you get better quality sleep.
Tip #4: TRY ROLLING OUT YOUR SORE MUSCLES. You can use a foam roller, which is a little more painful because you are applying pressure to the sore muscles. This is a way to help you recover faster, this is not needed to help you to just recover at a normal pace.
