Sri Lanka’s finance ministry has said it has defaulted on US$51 billion worth of external debt, calling this the last resort. The South Asian nation is currently awaiting a bailout from the International Monetary Fund. Its central bank is temporarily suspending foreign debt payments to avoid a hard default. Murtaza Jafferjee, Chairman of the Advocata Institute, shared his views on Sri Lanka’s debt crisis.
