The stock market has officially entered a bear market. A bear market occurs when prices in a market decline by more than 20% from their recent high, and last week the s&p 500 experienced a steep decline and closed at around 22% lower than its all time high which it hit at the start of this year, meaning that stocks are now officially in a bear market. I don’t know about you guys, but it seems like everywhere I look right now, all I seem to see is negative news about the economy and markets.

When I read up on stock market news I get bombarded with articles about recession fears and record inflation numbers. When I check my Linkedin notifications each morning, I get hit by news about all of the latest companies that have laid off their employees. And when I go on youtube with the goal of chilling out, I constantly get recommended videos from the big finance creators about the impending recession and market crash. But finance Youtuber’s like Graham Stephan and Andrei Jikh also make those videos regardless of whether the market is up or down. Like quite literally when the stock market was having an amazing year in 2021 returning over 26%, they made these videos… because of course it makes for great clickbait.

But as of lately, we actually are experiencing a bear market, so I think it’s finally valid to make a video about stocks crashing, but with that being said, with all the negative news out there, I want to focus on why a stock market crash can be a good thing for us investors. Because even though it sucks to see all of our investments in the red day after day, on the bright side a bear market is also historically a great time to make money in the stock market.

So lets talk about how we got here, why everything is crashing, what could happen over the next few months, what has historically happened during a market crash, and how can we apply what we learn from history, to our investments today, so that we can profit from this particular bear market that we are experiencing.
